Confirmation by Richard de Dol to Ralph Testard of his land in the viii of Westminster, lying between that formerly belonging to William son of Ordric, and that of Simon Poitevin, in length 29 of the iron ells of King Richard, and in width 6 of those ells, less 4 inches, to hold of Richard and his heirs in fee and inheritance at an annual rent of 3s. Gersum of a besant (2s.). [Early 13C]
Sciant presentes et futuri quod ego Ricardus de Dol dedi et concessi et hac presenti carta mea confirmavi Radulfo Testard terram meam cum pertinentiis suis in villa Westmonasterii; que videlicet terra jacet inter terram que fuit Willelmi filii Ordrici ex una parte, et inter terram Simonis Peitevin ex alia parte; et que terra continet in longitudine viginti et novem ulnas et dimidiam de ulnis ferreis Regis Ricardi, et in latitudine versus vicum regium sex ulnas de eisdem ulnis, quatuor pollices minus, et in latitudine versus occidentem quinque ulnas de eisdem ulnis. Habendam et tenendam de me et heredibus meis sibi et heredibus suis in perpetuum, in feodo et hereditate, libere et quiete, integre et plenarie, pacifice et honorifice; reddendo de prefata terra singulis annis michi et heredibus meis tres solidos ad quatuor terminos anni, pro omni servitio et exactione, videlicet: ad Pascha novem denarios; et ad Festum Sancti Johannis novem denarios; et ad Festum Sancti Michaelis novem denarios; et ad Natale Domini novem denarios, salvo forinseco servitio. Et ego Ricardus de Dol et heredes mei warantizabimus predictam terram cum pertinentiis suis predicto Radulfo et heredibus suis, et aquietabimus versus omnes homines et omnes feminas. Pro hac autem donatione et concessione et carte mee confirmatione, dedit mihi prefatus Radulfus unum bizantium in gersumam. Et ut hec mea donatio et concessio firma sit et stabilis, earn presentis scripti testimonio et sigilli mei appositione roboraui. Date: Attested by Odo the goldsmith as reeve, although the following attestation of Henry Sumer should be noticed (cf. Rosser, 360). The measurements in 'ells of King Richard' could be taken from an earlier deed or description of the plot. |
