Quitclaim by Simon of the Gaol to the 'Blessed Virgin and the church of St Peter of Westminster of his whole land in the vill of Westminster, lying between the land of Randulf Siket and that of Reginald carpenter, to provide lights for the Lady Altar. The proctor of this altar is to render is. annually to the custodian of the anniversary of Edward, formerly reeve of Westminster. In return for this quitclaim and charter, Simon received 5 marks (£3. 6s. 8d.) from Robert of Moulsham, precentor and proctor of the altar. [Oct. 1197 x c. 1200]
Sciant presentes et futuri quod ego Simon de Gaiola dedi et concessi et quieteclamavi Deo et Beate Marie et ecclesie Beati Petri Westmonasterii totam terram quam habui in villa Westmonasterii, que terra est inter terram Randulfi Siket et terram Reginaldi carpentarii: in longitudine et latitudine cum domibus et edificiis et omnibus pertinentiis, ad luminaria invenienda altari Beate Dei Genitricis Marie in eadem ecclesia. Quam scilicet terram omnino quietam clamavi de me et heredibus meis sine omni retinemento mei vel heredum meorum. Reddendo inde annuatim per manus procuratoris eiusdem altaris, qui pro tempore fuerit, duodecim denarios ad quatuor terminos anni ei qui pro tempore procuraverit anniversarium Edwardi, quondam prepositi Westmonasterii, scilicet: ad Natale Domini tres denarios; et ad Pascham tres denarios; et ad Festum Sancti Johannis Baptiste tres denarios; et ad Festum Sancti Michaelis tres denarios. Pro hac autem donatione et concessione et quietaclamatione et carte mee confirmatione recepi quinque marcas argenti per manus Roberti de Mulesham, tunc precentoris eiusdem ecclesie, et pretaxati altaris procuratoris. Et ut hec mea donatio et quietaclamatio rata sit et stabilis permaneat, eam sigilli mei appositione corroboravi.
