[[[[[[westch 392. Confirmation by Turold, master of the Hospital of St James near Charing, and the brethren and sisters of that house, that he has confirmed the grant made by Reginald, baker of Richard bp. of London, to the church of St Peter of Westminster and the convent of the land that he holds of the fee of the hospital in Fleet Street; this land lies between that of Geoffrey of Wycombe and that of the canons of St Osyth. The convent is to pay 3s. a year to the hospital, as Reginald did. [Temp. John]
Sciant presentes et futuri quod ego Turoldus, magister Hospitalis Sancti Jacobi iuxta Cherringe, et fratres et sorores eiusdem loci, concedimus et hac presenti calla nostra confirmamus ecclesie Sancti Petri Westmonasterii et eiusdem loci conventui donum et elemosinam quam Reginaldus, pistor Ricardi episcopi London', eidem ecclesie et conventui fecit et concessit de terra que de feodo nostro est in Flietestrate, quam predictus Reginaldus de nobis tenet. Que videlicet terra jacet inter terram Gaufridi de Wicumba et inter terram canonicorum Sancte Osithe. Predictus vero conventus Westmonasterii donum prefati Reginaldi et elemosinam libere et quiete et honorifice, sine calumpnia et exactione, finabiliter, possidebit reddendo inde singulis annis ecclesie Sancti Jacobi et successoribus nostris tres solidos pro omni servitio; qiios prius prefatus Reginaldus nobis de predicta terra persolvit ad duos terminos anni, scilicet: infra octo dies Natalis Domini decem et octo denarios, et infra octo dies Sancti Johannis Baptiste decem et octo denarios. Ut autem hec nostra concessio et confirmatio rata permaneat et stabilis earn presentis scripti testimonio et sigilli nostri appositione roboravimus. Date: Later than Reginald's grant to the abbey of rent from adjacent land (390). Turold was in office in the reign of Richard I, and in the mayoralty of Henry Fitz Ailwin, although, since the earliest known appearance of the next master is 1218 x 1219, Turold may have continued in office for some time after 1212 (VCH London, I, 545b and n. 45). |
