Description From: Mgr Walter of Ghent, abbot of Waltham Abbey, papal judge delegate; R[alph de Diceto], dean of [St Paul's Cathedral] London ('decanus lond''), papal judge delegate Recites pope Celestine III's mandate, addressed to the abbot of Waltham, the prior of Merton and the dean of London, dated 22 Mar 1192. R, rector of St Mary Aldermary ('aldemaricchirche') [London] had complained to the pope that the rectors of the neighbouring churches occupied his parish by violence and diminished it. The pope commanded the addressees to investigate and restore the parish and its fruits to R if the complaint was true. The abbot and the dean, the prior of Merton being absent, investigated the case and now pronounce sentence. They decree that the place where the woman called Chana lived, the house next to Peter Bukerel's house and his house, concerning which there was a dispute between the church of St Mary Aldermary and the church of Holy Trinity [the Less] belong to St Mary Aldermary parish. No date. [Date: date of Celestine's mandate and Walter's dates as abbot of Waltham.] Endorsed with description in late 13th cent hands.
