Date: Attestations of Henry Fitz Ailwin as mayor, and of William Handel and Robert of Winchester as sheriffs (Sheriffs, 200). Although Emma's marital status is not mentioned, the attestations indicate that the
document was issued on the same occasion as 366.
Note: On the earlier history of this land, see Cart. Aldgate, nos. 399-401. The date there ascribed to no. 400 is clearly incorrect, and Ralph de Sumery prob. acquired his lease from Prior Ralph (1147-67). Joyce's daughter Bola later granted the land to William de Cheynduit, rector of St Laurence, who gave it to St Peter and the monks of Westminster (Cart.
Aldgate, no. 401). |
