[1191 x 1202]
Date: Tenure of title of Geoffrey III, count of Perche, 1191 x ante 1202 (V. de Sairit-Allais, L'Art de Vérifier les Dates des Faits historiques, des Chartes, des Chroniques, et autres ancients Monuments, XIII (Paris, 1818), 180-181).
Note: The lands of Henry of Essex escheated to H II in 1163 (Sanders, 121, 139). The king's daughter Matilda, wife of Henry the Lion, duke of Saxony and Bavaria, had a daughter, another Matilda, who married the future Count Geoffrey in 1189 (Saint-Allais, ibid.). As her marriage portion, the younger Matilda conveyed to the count of Perche part, at least, of the lands formerly held by Henry of Essex (Sanders, 121). |
