441. Quitclaim by John son of Edward of Westminster to the Blessed Virgin and the church of St Peter of Westminster of 7s. 8d. worth of rents in the viii of Westminster, comp-rising 5s. which the brethren of St James rendered for one and a half acres of land enclosed within their churchyard; 2s. for a meadow, which Hugh son of Robert, the smith, rendered when he was a layman, and rendered by the brethren when he became a brother there; and 8d. which Robert of Croxley rendered for land which he bought from Mr Ernald Postard in that vil!. The grant is made to provide lights, or other necessities, for the Lady Altar, as its proctor decides. Robert of Moulsham, the precentor, gave him a gersum of six and a half marks (£4. 6s. 8d.). Sciant presentes et futuri quod ego Johannes filius Edwardi de Westmonasterio dedi et concessi et omnino quiete clamavi de me et heredibus meis Deo et Beate Marie et ecclesie Sancti Petri Westmonasterii septem solidatas et octo denariatas redditus in villa Westmonasterii, scilicet: quinque solidatas quas fratres de Sancto Jacobo solebant mihi reddere de una acra terre et dimidia que includitur intra atrium ipsorum fratrum; et duas solidatas de uno prato per manus eorundem fratrum quas Hugo filius Roberti fabri solebat michi reddere cum secularis esset postea factus frater eiusdem loci; et octo denariatas quas Robertus de Crokeslega solebat mihi reddere de terra quam emit de Magistro Ernaldo Postard in eadem villa. Habendas et tenendas eidem ecclesie libere et quiete de me et heredibus meis ad luminaria invenienda, vel ad alios usus utiles et necessarios altaris Beate Dei Genitricis Marie in eadem ecclesia juxta quod procurator eiusdem altaris melius vel utilius disposuerit, et percipiendas ad eosdem terminos quos ego Johannes percipere solebam, scilicet, septem solidatas de predictis fratribus ad quatuor terminos anni: ad Natale Domini viginti et unum denarios; et ad Pascham viginti et unum denarios; et ad Festum Sancti Johannis Baptiste viginti et unum denarios; et ad Festum Sancti Michaelis viginti et unum denarios; et octo denarios de Roberto de Crokesleg' vel heredibus suis ad duos terminos anni, scilicet: ad Pascham quatuor denarios, et ad Festum Sancti Michaelis quatuor denarios. Ego autem-Johannes et heredes mei warantizabimus predictum redditum septem solidorum et octo denariorum procuratori predicti altaris qui pro tempore fuerit et ei solvendum juxta terminos suprascriptos. Et pro hac donatione et concessione et quieta clamacione recepi per manus Roberti de Mulesham, tunc eiusdem ecclesie precentor s, sex marcas et dimidiam argenti.
