memorandum of a suit in the guildhall between walter de rokeslee , executor of the will of gregory de rokeslee, and richard son of john horn, concerning the possession of 40s annual quit rent arising from the tenemtn of the said john horn in the parish of st magnus the which rent the said wlater granted to john le benere and gilbert cros, wardens of London bridge, in settlement of the testators debt to the bridge of £37. the said richard admitted before the court that his father borrowed from the said gregory a certain sum of money, ofered the said 40s rent as security for the repayment of the loan by a certain date; but he produced letters of acquittance of walter de maydenstan, another of the executors of the aforesaid gregory, acknowledgeing the receipt of the money; and claimed that the agreemtn between the said john and gregory was thereby rendered void. The court pronounced the letters false and richard was adjudged to the pillory; but by the intervention of the bridge wardens the case was noconcluded. In the meantime, while the suit was pending in the guildhall, geoffrey de conduit, alderman of the ward of bruggestrete gave his kinswoman in marriage to Joohn de Warlee, with the said tenement of the said richard horn, and hingelard his brother procured by false suggestion that the justices sitting at st martin’s held an assize and adjudged the said tenement to the said John de warlee in perpetunity
